THIS WEEK'S BOOK FIND! "CARTIER: LA MONTRE TANK"
The Green Pebbles Girls have been scouring Geneva's antiques markets and book fairs once again, and this week's book find is CARTIER: LA MONTRE TANK.
Published in 1998 the book tells the history of Cartier's TANK wrist watch, which was created in 1917 has always held a special place in the heart of watch connoisseurs thanks to its design and technical excellence.
Written by Franco Cologni a writer and historian ( as well as chairman of the Cultural Council of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie and since 2007 Non-executive Director and Advisor to Richemont’s Chairman and CEO) who has penned many books on the history of watchmaking and jewellery including "The Secrets of Vacheron Constantin" and "Jaeger-LeCoultre. The history of the Grande Maison" which we wrote about in a another of our book find posts, with the collaboration of Dominique Fléchon.
Aside from the wonderful history, the book is a treasure trove of beautiful portraits of Cartier's famous clients wearing their Tank wristwatch. From Yves Saint Laurent, to Charlotte Rampling, Alain Delon from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to Andy Warhol (in a rather frightening pose!)to Yves Montand and Simone Signoret (sitting on the famed La Baule beach). The Cartier Tank has indeed adorned the wrists of some of the world's most important fashion icons, film stars and artists.
