MOYNAT'S CABOTIN - A BREATHTAKING BAG IS BORN! A winning design is revisited over 100 years after its original conception!

The Cabotin in Mahogany Brown |
In the
days when the Bristish were the leading tourists in Paris and stayed at the
Grand Hotel (the first parisian palace established in 1867 for the first UNIVERSAL EXHIBITION AT THE TUILERIES which was facing the MOYNAT MAISON) the
French Railway was infamous for imposing rather hefty excess luggage fees,
quite a burden for those tourists who chose to make purchases during their stay
in Paris

The Cabotin in Taupe |
It was with this in mind that MOYNAT created and patented the 'malle Anglaise' (the English trunk) (a reference to this can also be found on their letterhead until the 1900s as well as many of their adverts).
This fabulous invention (which was constantly improved year after year for 40 years and was renamed Malle Legère en Osier as of 1900) was very light thanks to its wicker structure yet extremely resistant and sturdy thanks to its strong coated canvas (with gutta percha), reinforced with sturdy cowhide.

An original Malle Anglaise from the MOYNAT Collection |
Today the Maison's Creative Designer RAMESH NAIR has reinterpreted this fantastic design and created the Cabotin!
The Cabotin is a stunning city bag in satin calfskin leather and perle calfskin lining. The design is still that of the original 'malle Anglaise' reduced in size - a mini 'malle Anglaise' if you like! The dimensions of the Cabotin also make it extremely appealing 25 cm wide, 8 cm deep and 15,5 cm height (yes we can even pop our iPad complete with its iPad cover)
The rounded smooth top and the 2 MOYNAT patented locks which secure the the bag, as well as the two sewn-down strap details (which mimic the two 'belt straps' that kept the 'English' trunk shut) ensure that none of the style that made the 'malle Anglaise' a winning design over 100 years ago is lost today.
Indeed, if anything it has been revisited and improved!
